Dairy Dreams LLC in Casco will receive more than $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Fertilizer Product Expansion Program to help launch the production of organic fertilizers.

The investment comes as the low supply and increased expense of fertilizer across the world is contributing to rising food prices and increased hunger.

Dairy Dreams will use the funding to offset equipment costs and building improvements that comes with launching the production of organic fertilizers, including constructing a nutrient concentration system and a pelleting system on a dairy farm to convert manure to domestically manufactured fertilizer, making it easier for farmers to access organic liquid and pellet fertilizers.

Compound Fertilizer Equipment The technology will also convert one-third of manure inputs into clean, dischargeable water and is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the hauling and disposal of manure.
