His older brother, 42-year-old Samuel Loftin Jr. died last Tuesday morning around 3:30 a.m. while working at the ABC Coke plant in Tarrant. The plant produces foundry coke also known as hard coal.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates with the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Samuel’s death is under investigation. Yates also says an autopsy was performed on Samuel the same day he died, but the official cause of death hasn’t been determined.

WVTM 13 did submit an online request shortly after noon Tuesday asking the Drummond Company, which is over ABC Coke, what led to Samuel Loftin’s death and what type of work he performed at the plant.

WVTM 13 also followed up with a phone call. So far, we haven’t heard back from them.
