Arizona Public Service Co. Boosts Reliability with Solar Power and Energy Storage

Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) recently reported that its network of solar power plants and energy storage facilities played a crucial role in improving reliability during a period of soaring electricity demand. The company stated that these nine systems, including a 17-megawatt storage facility in Chino Valley, enabled customers to harness solar energy even at night. Furthermore, APS emphasized that these facilities have contributed to grid stability and enhanced reliability.

Collectively, these installations provide approximately 200 megawatts of electricity, which is sufficient to power around 32,000 homes. Recognizing the benefits of these systems, APS plans to expand its storage capabilities with the addition of 13 more facilities. Once completed, these new installations are expected to contribute an additional 2,000 megawatts to the grid. Solar Battery System

The exceptional demand for electricity in the Phoenix area has been driven by a record-breaking heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit for 31 consecutive days. Consequently, APS customers set a new record by consuming the highest-ever amount of electricity for seven consecutive days.

By integrating solar power and energy storage, APS has not only enabled customers to tap into renewable energy sources but has also improved the overall resilience of the electrical grid. This combination of technologies contributes to a more sustainable and reliable energy system, reducing the strain on traditional power sources and mitigating the impact of extreme weather conditions.
