Construction Completed at Greater Binghamton Sports Complex

The finishing touches are being applied to a massive indoor sports facility erected at the site of an air-supported dome that collapsed in the town of Union.

The original dome collapsed under the weight of heavy wet snow in December 2020. Then, steel that had been erected for a replacement structure tumbled down last November after a sudden burst of wind at the construction site.

Kashou said it's fortunate no one was injured in either incident. In recent months, a new prefabricated steel structure has risen on the property off Airport Road.

Kashou said "it's a beautiful building. It's nice and bright and spacious." He said there's room inside for many activities.

A few activities already have been held inside the new facility. The grand opening is expected to be held soon.

Kashou said there is about 90,000 square feet of playing surface inside the structure.

In addition to sports activities, Kashou expects the facility will be used for other events.

Kashou believes the location of the complex a short distance from Interstate 86/Route 17 will make the site attractive for event planners.
